It looked like the sensation: Egypt lead 2-0 late against the defending champions. Then Argentina turn the game around completely.

The Argentines looked beaten – and fought their way back: first pulling one back, then the equaliser, finally the 3-2. Quarter-finals.

For Egypt it is the bitter end of a great tournament – and the most dramatic evening of the 2026 World Cup so far.
