US President Trump hosts Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu at the White House on Tuesday – their first face-to-face meeting since the Iran war began in February. On the same day, Trump separately meets Ukrainian President Zelensky.
Iran tops the agenda with Netanyahu. After 13 nights of US airstrikes and a subsequent ceasefire, both sides are seeking a path to the negotiating table. Trump spoke on Monday of "very friendly talks" with Tehran, but made clear he does not want endless negotiations. Iran, in turn, said the US was struggling to find a way out of the war.
For Netanyahu, the visit is also politically delicate at home: support for the war is falling in Israel, with parliamentary elections due in October. Observers expect him to emphasise his close partnership with Trump.
The separate meeting with Zelensky concerns the war in Ukraine – a second conflict in which the US plays the decisive role.
Why it matters to you: on this single day in Washington, part of what's decided is whether two of today's most dangerous wars move toward de-escalation or escalation. Both affect energy prices, security and alliances – all the way to Europe.
Own synthesis based on reports from Al Jazeera, NBC News, Foreign Policy, Times of Israel and The Epoch Times (as of 28 July 2026). Both sides are represented.
