The wait is over: Jürgen Klopp is Germany's new national team coach. The German Football Association presented the 59-year-old at the DFB Campus in Frankfurt. His contract runs until after the 2030 World Cup.
Klopp does not come alone. Three close confidants will work at his side: Peter Krawietz, his long-time companion, along with Pepijn Lijnders from their shared Liverpool days and Sven Bender, whom he coached back in Dortmund.
The structure of the move is remarkable: the DFB does not have to pay a transfer fee to Red Bull. Instead, both sides agreed on a donation of one million euros to the Wings for Life foundation – and Leipzig will host three international matches.
The association is also restructuring off the pitch: Per Mertesacker will become the new sporting director on 1 January 2027. Together they are meant to shape the fresh start after the disappointing recent tournaments.
